Bubbles for Omran

For those who may not be familiar with Omran: Omran Daqneesh is boy of only 5 years, who was rescued after an airstrike in the Syrian city of Aleppo. Within hours, a photo of his dust- and blood-covered face captured the world's attention. And in this way, Omran became a symbol of Aleppo's suffering and war's horrors. Delta Kappa Delta's social media initiative is driven by the #BubblesForOmran social media campaign in which participants are challenged to blow bubbles for support and to raise awareness. The hope is that this visual and these bubbles call more attention to the crisis in Syria and one day show the People of Syria that the world actually does care. That the inaction of political governing bodies does not define the support the general population has for them.  That the People expect our leaders to act in Syria. That the past 5 years have not gone unnoticed by the citizens of the world. What I love most about the #BubblesforOmran challenge is the opportunity it offers for us all to nationally stand up for such an important cause. In addition, Delta Kappa Delta Sorority, Inc. is partnering with the founder of the #BubblesforOmran challenge to put on a side event supported by and during the United Nations 71st General Assembly! This event will take place Saturday, September 24, from 12PM-3PM in Washington Square Park. We have the support of the sisters of NYU colony at this event but if any alumni/ sisters are in town, please do stop by and support! At at the event, we plan to have a table of bubble bottles so people who are passing by can blow bubbles on the spot and post to social media outlets.  It's a simple idea with the intention of showing we  care about the Crisis in Syria.
